Stunning Landscape - Cappadocia, Turkey

The mysterious rock formations and underground cities of Cappadocia make this region of Turkey one the most beautiful in the world. The rich history of this site can be told through the villages, subterranean churches and fortresses that have been carved straight into the soft, porous, eerily eroded rock.

Popular activities in the region include visits to the underground cities, viewing the ancient Christian cave art, seeing the “fairy chimney” rock formations, and taking sunrise hot air balloon rides for a view of the breathtaking landscape from above.

When I am certain everyone else in the world is following odditiesoflife I will not reblog everything she puts up quite so industriously….

❧ new on balderdash! • • • chapter iii, page 42
(
for clarity’s sake, page 41 again, too!)

The Mail Person came by around two hours after noon every day. She was a friendly lady who liked to tell Katya stories and sit with Katya’s mom and drink potion before she made her deliveries in town. Katya liked the Mail Person because she was friendly but mostly because it was the easiest way to obtain the Very Important News regarding the lives of townsfolk.

Usually, Katya was deft enough to replace any borrowed letters the next day or the day after, but she was so excited about the new baker person she just couldn’t bear to part with the letter. She also suspected that her Googtroll ate it, which was another important factor in the decision.

If you’re a follower of this site, you know that I am a 100% Marvel zombie to the core. Funny thing is, I hadn’t really read any regular issue-by-issue titles until after the Marvel NOW! relaunch, which in my mind has created some of the best titles in modern comics in as long as I can remember. So every day, I’m going to release a song about a different Marvel NOW! title.

The first song/title isn’t exactly a Marvel NOW! title. I think Matt Fraction/David Aja’s Hawkeye was humming along before the big relaunch, but it’s close enough that it makes sense to include it here, right? Following Clint Barton’s adventures when he’s off-duty from being an Avenger, the book has taken on a weird kind of cult status with both fans of superhero stuff, and non-fans alike, and for good reason.

It’s a story about a regular guy, who lives in an insane universe with gods, superheroes, robots and crazy villains. We get to see Hawkeye beaten up, hurting, screwing up. In a weird way, it reminds you why you love superhero books: because the core of Barton is a guy who has a responsibility, and even a calling that forces him to take action. In another universe, Barton would just be a salty, bitter PI or cop, or maybe just nothing at all: a total slacker. But Hawkguy always manages to take action and selflessly give his time, his body and health, and his world to try to do the right thing. There’s something to learn from that.

Anyway, you can buy the first trade of Hawkeye on Amazon for pretty cheap.
